AKC vs CKC

What is the difference between AKC (American Kennel Club) and the CKC (Continental Kennel Club)?

The AKC has higher standards when it comes to registering, breeding or showing dogs. They will not allow any dog to be registered if the parents aren’t. If an AKC stud sires a certain amount of litters a year, the AKC requires that the sire's DNA be on file. I cannot go into all the requirements by the AKC that make them an exceptional registry, but there are many. The CKC will register any dog that looks pure bred and even mixed breeds.

The CKC is not a favorable registry. It is very easy to register a mixed breed dog that looks purebred, as a purebred dog with the CKC. You simply print their online application, &ll it out, send it and 3 photos of the dog and the application fee…. in return you receive a certificate stating the dog is purebred. When buying a CKC registered dog, you can't really be sure what you're really getting.

*Beware of pet stores advertising their puppies as AKC registered. The registration's are fake. If considering purchasing a puppy from a pet store, please go to the AKC's website and take a look at what their registrations look like to be sure you are getting what you are paying for.
